Version 2.0 of the Online Dental Radiography Simulator uses AI to provide automated analysis of virtual radiographs and instant feedback to students on the virtual radiographs they take within the simulator. We hope that this will increase the speed and quality of learning. As with AI systems used to analyze clinical images, we do not expect that this system will be perfect but hope it will be helpful.
You can toggle feedback on and off by pressing the “Feedback” button in the lower right corner. The screenshots below display the appearance with feedback on and off. These screenshots can be enlarged by clicking on them.
As in the first screenshot below, a red border around an image indicates that a possible error was identified with the virtual radiograph. If any errors are identified within the FMX, a list of Error Codes is shown on the right side of the screen.
The system analyzes the anatomy included within the virtual radiograph. If portions of teeth that should be included in a projection are not included, the system lists the numbers of the incompletely visualized teeth at the bottom of the image, as shown below. In addition, red areas are superimposed on the virtual radiograph around the missing anatomy.
The system also determines if the correct XCP was utilized for the view and displays “XCP” at the bottom of the image if the wrong XCP was utilized.
Feedback would be appreciated. If you find any errors in the system or have suggestions for improvement, please contract us.
